A review of Caraval by Stephanie Garber.
“Whatever you’ve heard about Caraval, it doesn’t compare to the reality. It’s more than just a game or performance. It’s the closest you’ll ever find yourself magic in this world.” This quote from Caraval explains the “magic” within the games to show it’s different then anything you’ve ever seen in the real world.
Caraval is a mystery including fantasy and a small amount of romance. The main character Scarlett Dragna has always known her sister wanted to go to the traveling game/performance Caraval with her sister. Her sister Donatella or Tella Dragna has wrote to the host Master Legend for years until her marriage date was set, that’s when he responds back. He gives Tella two tickets to Caraval. She wants to go with her forbidden love and Scarlett to the games. Scarlett is worried for her sister because if their father found them he would punish Scarlett with her weakness the pain of others. She tries to stop Tella worried for her life but she doesn’t listen. Little does Tella know, the game revolves around her. Will Scarlett find her first or will she lose her sister forever.
I love Caraval because it kept me on the edge I never wanted to stop reading I just wanted to know what happened next. I would rate this book a 5 star because it is definitely my favorite book at the moment. I would rate this book for middle school students because there is some romance involved and it may not be good for elementary students.
